Can somebody please explain to me who Sir Thomas More was? A little in regards to his political background, Scholarly and literary backgrounds, his crusade versus reformation and a little regarding his trial and execution. Im attempting to write a mini biography with regards to him. If you recognise any of that information, it would be much cherished if you would help out. Sir Thomas More, born 7 February 1478 and passed from physical life (executed) 6 July 1535, (also known as Saint Thomas More in the Catholic church), was an English lawyer, scholar, author and statesman. He was a friend of King Henry VIII, and had a huge family. http://www.luminarium.org/renlit/moreimages.htm His father was a lawyer, and More likewise studied law, getting a barrister. Great things were prevised of him. However, he also had a calling for the monastic life, but he decisive that he couldn't live with celibacy. So he married, but continued to wear hair shirts and practise self-punishment. He married twice: Jane Colt, who had four children by him, and then, shortly after her death, he married Alice Middleton. They had no children, but he brought up Alice's daughter. He gave his daughters an splendid education, which was strange for the time. He attracted the King's attention and ultimately became Lord Chancellor, the firstborn layman to do so. He disapproved of the King's stance towards the church and refused to attend Anne Boleyn's coronation. Then, in 1534, he refused to swear to the Act of Succession and the Oath of Supremacy, and was devoted to the Tower of London on April 17. In July he was beheaded.
