The Life and Times of the Scarf

When we think of scarves we may conjure up images of Hollywood celebrities riding around in convertibles. Scarves have an elegancy in regards to them… a style. So where did the introductory scarf come from, who formulated it and how did it evolve through history?

According to research, the scarf dates back at least as far as ancient Rome. At that time, a linen kerchief known as a sudarium (Latin term for “sweat cloth”) was applied by the Romans to wipe sweat from their faces. Something that started out for pragmatic use quickly became a fashion statement and the ancient Romans quickly formulated the scarf into an accessory. Women weren’t to be left out, seeing the men in their scarves, they too started out wearing them.

The Chinese of course aren’t to be left out of scarf history. Warriors of the Chinese Emperor Cheng (Shih Huang Ti) wore scarves made of wool, which conveyed their rank.

Scarves seemed to be a hit around the world over time. The French loved the idea of wearing pieces of fabric around their heads or body, peculiarly if they had color. They called their scarves cravats, from the Croatian word kravata. Ones political tendencies were ofttimes demonstrated by the color of their scarf.

Scarves have and may always have a practical use. In drier, dustier climates, or in environments where there are a heap of airborne contaminants, a thin headscarf, kerchief, or bandanna is often times worn over the head to keep the hair clean. Religions have integrated the use of the scarf to show modesty. Many Muslim women wear a headscarf often times known as a hijab, and in Quranic Arabic as the khimar. The Keffiyeh is ordinarily used by Muslim men. Women in the Haredi Judaism community often wear a tichel to cover their hair. Several Christian denominations include a scarf known as a stole as part of their liturgical vestments.

During the First World War, silk scarves were applied by pilots in order to keep oily smoke and exhaust out of their mouths while flying. These pilots oftentimes preferent silk as it helped prevent neck chafing, particularly fighter pilots, who were perpetually turning their heads from side to side looking at for enemy aircraft.

Scarves are likewise ordinary with British sports enthusiasts. Since at least the early 1900s, fans of football teams have worn colored scarves. These scarves come in a wide assortment of sizes and are made in a club's queer colors. They may likewise have the club crest, pictures of widely known and esteemed players, and respective slogans relating to the history of the club and it is rivalry with others. In the United Kingdom, the most general and conventional type is a simple design with alternating bars of color in the person team's conventional colors.

As part of pre-match build-ups, or for the duration of matches, fans will manufacture a 'scarf wall' in which all supporters in a division of the stadium will stretch out their scarves above their heads with both hands, creating an impressive 'wall' of color, normally accompanied by the singing of a club anthem such as "You'll Never Walk Alone". This was initially solely a British phenomenon, but has since disseminate to Europe and South America.

Scarf wearing is likewise a cited feature of support for Australian rules football clubs in the Australian Football League, and are always in the form of alternating bars of color, normally with the team name or mascot written on each second bar.

Scarves have had fashion ebbs and flows all around time. Having flexibleness in how they are worn, they always make a comeback in color, design and style without seeming to have to strong of tie to the past.

Whether you are wearing your scarf for your favored team or to add a good deal of elegance to your wardrobe, your scarf may represent your distinctive personality and preferences.

I need aid pleaseee !!! i have to make an analyzation of this poem?

A Mermaid Questions God

As a girl, she hated the grain of anything
on her fins. Now she is part fire ant, share centipede.
Where dunes stretch into pathways, arteries appear.
Her blood pressure is temperature plus wind speed.

Where religion is a thousand miles of coastline,
she is intimate with moon size, with tide changes.
She wears the cream of waves like a vestment,
knows undertow is imaginary, not something to pray to.

Now her questions implicate fairytales, begin
in a garden and lead to hands painted on a chapel's ceiling.
She wants to hold the ribbon grass, the shadow of angels
across the shore. She steals a Bible from the Seashore Inn;

she will trust it only if it floats.

First of all, since mermaids are imaginary, what you have here is a sort of extended metaphor. Let us say the "girl" is drawn to the ocean and sea life, and then it will make more sense. The basi line proposes that something grainy or gritty is uncomfortable to her (not literal fins) that is to say, questions with regards to why things are the way they are, or how the world works, etc. The combining of a fire ant and centipede proposes something that is fast, dangerous, and moves where it wants, perhaps describing calibers or actions numerous younger humans enjoy, whether in a literal sense or virtually, in their search for adventure. The third line is interesting; I'm not sure precisely what it means. Sand dunes near an ocean might be beautiful to her and get her blood circulating faster, maybe. The fourth line seems to be more of a scientific description, indicating that the girl may have moved into scientific, biological exploration of a lot of kind. The second stanza seems to reinforce that she is caught up in scientific observations now, for moon size, tide changes, or things that may be measured (a thousand miles). The last two lines of the second stanza makes me think that she has become something like an ocean biologist, or at least would be comfortable in a heap of career affiliated to that, wearing "the cream of waves like a vestment" or a occupation uniform you would wear with honor. The undertow is not in a literal sense imaginary, but the line is saying there is no god of the sea like Neptune creating nature's forces. The last stanza gives evidence of the girl is curious regarding religion but still skeptical. The idea of "fairytales" references back to what I have seen a lot of atheists call religion in daily speech. The "garden" reference could refer to the Garden of Eden, one of the original settings in the Bible, and "hands painted on a chapel's ceiling" could refer to a great deal of religious churches, but as another answerer said, it probably does refer to the Sistine Chapel, whose painted ceiling is in all likelihood the most famous in the world. The idea of "ribbon grass" makes me think of a ribbon book mark which is attached to most good copies of the Bible/scriptures, or else long sea grass that always looks picturesque from a distance. It sounds like she wants to recognise if angels are real or not but there is a distance of galore kind separating her from seeing anything other than their "shadow...across the shore." It sounds like she gets a Bible from the room of a hotel called the Seashore Inn but is still so skeptical that "she will trust it only if it floats," indicating that she is still unacquainted with the idea of faith and prayer and still relies on a scientific approach, no matter how strong her religious curiosity is. The reader of the poem knows a heavy book will not in a literal sense float on water, and so the reader knows that at this rate, the girl will in all probability not be competent to satisfy her quest until something regarding her viewpoint changes.
