San Diego - A Brief History Of Its PeopleFor the longest time, San Diego was home to the Kumeyaay persons of the southwestern United States and northwest Mexico, making them the native inhabitants of this southern Californian region. As such, they established their own culture and dominance of the land long before the arrival of the initial European settler, a Portuguese explorer by the name of Juan Rodrigues Cabrillo. Cabrillo (ca.1499 - 1543) arrived in San Diego under the Spanish flag, sailing on his flagship San Salvador. He had traveled there from the port at Navidad, New Spain, and claimed the San Diego bay in the name of the Spanish Empire. At the time, he named the website 'San Miguel', and it remained this way for in regards to half a century. The next major arrival on these Californian shores was in November of 1602, when Sebastian Vizcaino (1548 - 1624) was sent by the crown to draw up a map of the California coast. His flagship was named the 'San Diego', from which the city would ultimately get it is name. Does any individual recognise anything regarding "the Saint" by Gabriel Marquez? I know this is a long shot. But i would be infinitely thankful if any individual may tell me, in detail, the story of "the Saint" (la santa) by Gabriel Marquez. The short story is just one out of 12 stories in the collection called "Strange Pilgrims". It was translated by Edith Grossman but I can't get the book. Can any individual help? Link would be nice. A copy of the english version would be best. Have you tried to Google him? You need to look him up under the name Garcia Marquez, not just Marquez. I don't recognise even so if you may find sufficient with regards to The Saint. |
