Looking at the calm water near the launch area, it almost seemed foolish to worry when it comes to flipping over and we were marveling why there was so much special importance and significance on preparing to get wet. We put a cooler full of drinks and sanwiches in our canoe and set off more or less tentatively on our journey. Spectacular bridges span the river at respective points even though most of this float was away from the highway, making it feel even more remote than it in truth is. We expended the next four hours or so alternating amidst negotiating a heap of of the more inviolable currents - or what you might call very little rapids -- and quietly paddling on a finelooking blue-sky spring day. We stopped only for a few minutes to have a sandwich on a spectacular sandy beach - even though we're told most humans linger at these beaches to swim, sunbathe and just hang out with their fellow travelers for hours on end. After mastering perhaps a dozen fast-current bottlenecks and with less than a few hundred yards to go to our finish, we were sentiment supremely convinced that we had regained the canoeing prowess of our youth. And then the unthinkable happened: we flipped. We had run aground in some shoal water and momentarily forgot that you don't dislodge a canoe by shifting your weight. Yes, we did get a little wet, but we weren't actually cold on this bright sunny day and we were capable to retrieve our belongings in short order. Our pride was wounded. Should my russian/horsfield tortoise be burrowing? I just got a russian tortoise the other day. The bedding is garden wood chips purchased in a diy center. I checked and they are okay for him as he wont eat them but he is burrowing all the time.(the bedding is rather deep). Is that normal or is the temperature wrong. thank you it is alright for him to burrow. if you think he is doing it because of cold you might undertake getting him a heat lamp but check with where you got it first. |
