| A gold medal is commonly the medal awarded for the most eminent accomplishment in any filed that is not military related. The medal is not made completely out of gold but it has at least a faction of the glittering metal or is gold plated. The golden age stands for the times when the man was living amidst the gods, the silver age represents the youth of the man that lasted a hundred years and the bronze age represents the era of the heroes. In the innovative Olympic Games the best performance is awarded the gold medal but in the ancient Olympic Games there were no medals given to the best athletes. As the gold medal is not genuinely made out of the glittering metal, so the name stands more for it is color. Today medals are awarded even in other competitory fields like singing and writing. Why did the US women's softball team players leave the cleats on home plate after losing to Japan? In the Gold Medal Olympic game, a lot of US women left their cleats there...why? This was a bit of a symbolic protest, versus the elimination of softball from the 2012 Olympics. It's similar to the old wrestling habit of a wrestler leaving his shoes on the mat when he retires. I think it was a outstanding idea. It's terrible that baseball and softball are being cut. They're profiting popularity worldwide. Come on, you can't tell me that there are no other sports in the Olympics that lack global (*cough*european*cough*) appeal. |
