I have galore very old silver items, plates, platters, bowls etc. that have been in the attic. they are largely black in color, one has green fuzz on it. I need to know the best way to clean and polish them without loosing the value. Some are very intricate. Before you try all those name brand high dollar silver cleaners. Take a glass bowl of white vinegar, place one of the lesser pieces to test it, and wait a few minutes, then rinse with warm water. Only leave them in as long as needed, but it works wonders on silver coins, brass items, copper and numerous other soft metals. It might stain stainless steel, (stain the stainless steel, oxymoron). It is cheap, vinegar, and it may be applied for any cleaning you need to do around the house. Try vinegar first. |
