He stood staring at the high jump and gently rocked back and forth on his feet. This motion simulated the basi move he would make to begin his run. A full 4 minutes passed before he started out his jump! He did not take a single step toward his jump until he had completely rehearsed each nuance of the jump in his mind's eye. Talk when it comes to focus! Imagine all those cameras, viewers and millions looking at on TV. That single jump, which won him the Gold Medal, revolutionized high jumping forever. Every other jumper started out to copy the widely known and esteemed Fosbury Flop. Prior to this all he received was ridicule and doubt in his capacity to compete with that "silly" technique. Winning is all in your mind. Or ought to I say it's all in your mind's eye... We all have an inner power that may be tapped and used in any way we choose. Question to fellow Catholics? When buying a rosary, does it matter what center is used? I recognise there are a heap of selections these days (Miraculous medal, Scapular, St. Patrick, etc). I've heard numerous women in my church say it's not a rosary unless it has a Miraculous medal center (or a little Miraculous medal charm on the center), but with all the selections out there, does it matter if the rosary has St. Patrick on the center? Please no rude answers. Your Catholic rosary may have any religious medal or medallion for the center to hold the long strand together. Because the rosary is to a great extent influenced by devotion to the Blessed Mother, the center is most many times (in my experience) a medallion of Mary, and ofttimes of Mary on one side and Jesus on the other. If you want St. Patrick, go ahead. The women in your church who say you will have to have a Miraculous medal as the center are just plain wrong. You could have a rosary without any medallion at all, in fact. What matters is the number of beads, as they are aids to counting the proper number of Hail Marys. And, I ought to say, what matters most is the prayerful attitude, the devotional state, that praying the rosary brings about. When all is said and done, the physical rosary is of little significance. It is plainly a counting device, a means to a much dandier end--your devotional meditative state--and is not an end in itself. As a final thought: a good deal of holy monks and deeply religious humans centuries ago fashioned rosaries out of string and acorns or whatsoever they had at hand, and did so with no medallion at the center. |
