To this day, sub rosa (or underneath the rose) means confidentiality. Unlike ancient Rome, roses today don't represent secrecy as they once did. Is there a way to "dye" sterling silver jewelry a gold color? I have these sterling silver earrings that I want in gold, but I can't find them anywhere! So is there a paint or dye to buy to make them gold plated (not real gold, obviously)? And would it chip without apparent effort over the sterling silver? Sterling may be plated with a gold overlay which is called vermeil--pronounced vermay. Many jewelers may do this--so it's worth asking them how much--it would be less that a new pair of gold earrings. You may use a gold paint pen but they won't look real. You might want to check with craft stores to see when it comes to getting gold leaf and applying it to the earrings, but it will scratch as will paint. |
