| Chennai is the quickly growing City in India. There are a heap of ancient Vishnu temples in and around Chennai City. Here I share info on two popular temples in Chennai city. Parthasarathy Temple The Parthasarathy Temple is one of the oldest Vaishnavite temples in chennai devoted to Lord Krishna. This ancient Hindu temple in chennai was built by pal lavas in 8th Century and reformed by later kings. This temple is One of the 108 holy abodes of Lord Vishnu. It houses deities of four incarnations of Lord Vishnu namely Narasimha, Rama, Lord Varaha and Venkatakrishna. Here Lord Vishnu gave darshan as parathasarhy, the charioteer of Arjuna for the duration of Mahabharatha War. Partha denotes Arjuna and Sarathy denotes charioteer. Legend says that,King sumathi wished to worship Lord Venkateshwara as Krishna. Lord Venkateshwara appeared before King Sumathi as a charioteer here in order to fulfil his promise. Idol of Lord Partasarathy was installed in this temple by Sage Athreya. Here Lord Krishna is seen with a moustache (as per traditions of the charioteer) and conch. He is also seen without his weapon Chakra as Lord Krishna has promised to renounce weapons for the duration of Mahabharatha war. Lord's face is full of scars produced by the arrows of kauravas in the Kurukshetra war. Among the 12 great saints in Vaishnavite tradition three of them have sung with regards to the deities of this temple. This temple is located in the heart of the Chennai city and open to the public among Morning 6.00 AM-12.30 PM and Evening 4.00 PM to 8.00 PM. Thiruneermalai Vishnu Temple Thiruneermalai Vishnu Temple is one among the 108 places considered sacred by Vaishnatives. It is one of the widely known and esteemed ancient temples near Chennai committed to Lord Vishnu. It is hardly 8 Kilometers from Chennai Airport. The base temple is committed to Lord Rama also known as Neervanan. The temple up the hill has four shrines devoted for Lord Ranganatha (in reclining posture), Animamalarmangai Thayaar, Trivikrama and Lord Narashimha. Legend says that, sage Valmiki prayed to Lord Ranganatha and Goodness Ranganayaki in the base temple. At the top of the hill, Sage had a divine darshan of Lord Vishnu in three forms, Ranganatha in the reclining posture, Narasimha in sitting position and Thiruvikrama in walking style. Back at the foot hill,he had a darshan of "Kalyana Rama". Later,when Thirumangaialwar wanted to worship the Lord at the temple, the place was surrounded by water. Since,then the place came to be called as `Thiruneermalai'. People need to climb 200-300 steps to reach the temple. This Vishnu temple in chennai is widely known and esteemed for conducting marriages.
