Preserving history at the National Museum of ArtCambodia, having had it is share of internal difficulties from 1975-1979, rose up again and strove in front to build their nation as never before. To this end, the National Museum of Art played a critical role as it was the heart of traditionalisti Cambodian life style and religion. During the bothered amount of time the museum unluckily went into disrepair and neglect, with a lot of artefacts being stolen and misplaced.
However through the intervention of the government, philanthropists, and private donors, the museum was once again restored to it is original beauty in 1979.
Built in 1917, the National Museum of Art was designed by a widely known and esteemed French architect. It was built along conventional Khmer design with rust red terra cotta roofing. The Khmer empire encompassing Thailand, Cambodia as it is today and Vietnam was a very vast and powerful one. The National Museum of Art is the only museum which carries an spacious range of historical and artistic works from this era.
There are close to 14,000 Khmer empire related items on display which include ethnographic items, bronzes, ceramics, sculptures and art. Additionally the museum holds some other archaeological and historical artefacts making it the country's main such museum.
Apart from this the museum is also primary as a religious centre. It houses a massive collection of Hindu and Buddhist sculptures and images. Among these is the ever widely known and esteemed Post-Angkorian era Buddha.
Whilst most items are permanent exhibits, the National Museum of Art also engages actively in lending some of it is collection for global exhibitions. Through this and other preservation, promotion, conservation, activity of formally presenting something and acquisition activities, the Cambodian government hopes to inculcate healthful historical and cultural values in the museum's visitors.

Is there significance or relevance to receiving and elephant statue from a Hinduist or Buddhist? I received as a Christmas gift a clay, bronze colored elephant statue from one of my clients. It is not in truth my style but I do not want to pass it on if there is a great deal of significance to the gift (other than the fact that it was a Christmas gift Elephant as a symbol brings good luck and prosperity. It denotes wealth and wisdom. Hindus rever elephants as Ganesha who is an elephant headed deity known for wisdom and mastery of arts and also for bringing when it comes to successfulness and good luck. He is also the seat of wisdom and destroyer of all obstacles. While Buddhists believe that elephants fetch good luck, while carrying Siddhartha Gautam, the mother saw white, multi-tusked elephants in her dreams which were interpreted as the advent of a great soul. Generally elephants are harmless, peaceful and brainy animals. Keep it in your house / room facing the door perhaps in the southern share of the house/room, and am sure it'll fetch good luck to you. thanks |
