Anointing Oil
| Is she being too extravagant? No! Mary comes and approaches Jesus with a pound or a pint of very cherished ointment. Her love for her Lord is lavish and she lashes out in love. In all Jesus' dealings with people, Jesus was so generous and so we see Mary here being so abundantly generous, in the way she worshipfully anoints Jesus. If we ever are accused or criticised for going over the top in worship Jesus will not rebuke us nor give us a row. Jesus sees our hearts and knows our motivations just as he knew Mary's heart and motives. We read of this act in John Chapter 12 in the New Testament. Do take time or make time to read of this finelooking incident. This is leadership from Mary in a most fantasti and subtle and appreciative manner. When we gather together to worship or when we worship and pray on our own in our homes, does our worship anoint Jesus? Will our singing and praising and praying be like anointing oil in the heavens? Love is not niggardly and mean. Mary so loved and so cherished Jesus that she wants to give and give and give, and pour and pour and pour, until it had all been expended on Jesus. She is saying, "My most worthful possession is yours." Faith is an act. This is faith in action. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. The whole house was filled with a most pretty fragrance. What kind of fragrance do we leave when we express our worship and praise? What kind of atmosphere do we bestow to the fellowship around us as we sing and praise and worship and participate? This fragrance would be clinging to Christ for the remainder of his earthly life. Mary was conscious of what was in regards to to occur soon and she takes this opportunity. Sometimes sure probabilities only come once. Had she waited until Jesus dies she could never have ministered in this gorgeous manner. When Jesus Christ gives you the prospect to express your love to him in numerous way, take it. It may never arise again. And, be prepared to danger appearing silly. Be prepared to risk going over the top. If you do, I tell you this, Jesus won't mind. Other persons might think you a bit strange or a bit of a fanatic, but Jesus won't mind if you get it wrong. Remember that definition of a fanatic. It is someone who loves Jesus more than I do!
